The real Sonny

Looked much more like Deniro than Pacino (see link). Anyway I'm rewatching this now on Movies!, one of the true classics. Al Pacino had just finished Godfather 2 and was too exhausted to do this one, but when he heard his rival Dustin Hoffman would take his place he changed his mind. I noticed a few goofs in the beginning. This was supposed to be 1972 when the actual robbery took place, however the WTC shown when filmed in 1975 was finished. In 1972 the top was still under construction. Also a marquee says A Star is Born, a film that opened in 1975.
The real Sonny (John Wjtowicz) said the film was about 300% accurate. But the beginning didn't make any sense: a. he burned the register starting a fire instead of just taking it with him. b. he didn't just leave; he made them get in the vault, then they had to go to the bathroom, etc. c. Why didn't the police just let them leave and THEN apprehend them. The police set up the hostage situation by calling them during the robbert. Again not sure how much of this was part of the true story, and we know how dumb cops can be, just just didn't make sense.
