Ok, cast a remake, here.

Who would you choose to play:

Doc -

Monk -

Ham -

Renny -

Long Tom -

Johnny -

Anyone who suggests The Rock, Arnold, or similar types for Doc will be dissolved by the Red Snow.

reply

Ham Brooks ... Ralph Fiennes
Renny ... Ron Perlman

Still thinking about the other roles...

Check out "The Transporter" - the lead, Jason Statham would make an excellent Doc. He's ripped and seems adept at martial arts, only down side is he's "only" 5 feet 11 inches tall, still it's not Cruise-size!!

reply

I know the first writer cut "THE ROCK" out i think he may be the best choice due to his build, ethnic make-up and most importantly he can still draw moviegoers regardless of his past film flops.Any remakes would have to be brought into future.Doc Savage was a science detective first and foremost, mind over fists.Doc was result of decades of breeding and training to create basically a weapon for justice.Arnold is too old, Statham is close but the not quite right.Doc's team should be younger between 20-35 years old and be high-tech doppelgangers of the novels heroes. For example-Monk Mayfair was a chemist-now a genetech/nano-tech , what has to be avoided is the crappy stereotypes like the extreme sports freak[johnny storm of last years F.F]or nerdy-brainy-virgin.These guys fight in and on Wall Street and high tech research labs as well court rooms and corporate boardrooms before boxing and whatever after work!Imagine STEVE JOBS and BILL GATES fighting crime! The Rock also dislikes guns in his films much the way Doc uses non-lethal weapons and the CRIME COLLEGE to help former convicts.I'm sorry but I am a fan of the film and the novels and would like to see Doc and the boys done right even if it is a re-imaging of the source material.

How about:

Michael Chiklis as Monk.

Nicholas Cage as Long Tom.

Still Thinking...

How about Guy Pearce as Doc?

But Guy Pearce is blond and has a sharp shaped face. Maybe after a little training...

WOW, great choices!! Especially M.Chiklis...

I was scrolling dowh this thread thinking EXACTLY the same thing.. My wife and I also have Jsh pegged as 'Face' in an A-Team remake.. lol.. ;)

Currently watching the original and I'd like to suggest Christopher Lee as Capt Seas. They look so similar ;-)

I'd rather cast total unknowns as Doc & his team.
Why not go the route they did, cast a former Olympic Athelete for Doc.
You need someone whose about 6-2, pretty built. Either a former swimmer, Gymnast or Decathlete.

Cast stars as the bad guys, that way you've got names for billboards and posters.

Currently watching the original...

How are you doing that? Is it on cable or do you have a bootleg DVD?

It was on UK terrestrial TV as i reviewed it.

"If they make a new Doc movie they'll either adapt the books (hopefully) or come up with an original story (God help us). "

Frank Darabont (THE GREEN MILE) wrote a (supposedly) awesome script for the Arnold Schwartzenegger project; this was before Arnie went into politics, and at the time he had about four projects AHEAD of Doc Savage. I think he may have eventually dropped out of the project, but in any case the movie was put on hold/cancelled because the script was way too elaborate and expensive. I've been trying to get a hold of that script for many years! It would be interesting to read (also, the Farmer treatment would be cool to see, too).

From a strictly "looks" standpoint, I'd like to see Dolph Lundgren as Doc.

He's got the height - 6'-5" and his build looks a lot like the early James Bama Bantam paperback artwork.

reply

I think maybe, Casper Van Diem could Play Doc.

as an ardent doc savage fan i would have to be a purist and keep the setting in its original context, i recently saw steven segal in his latest movie offering which sucked by the way, however i noticed some similarities in his current look that reminded me of the back covers of bama`s art for clark savage, if he lost weight bulked up and dyed his hair i think he would look pretty good, alternatively i would go with the rock, but then i would use him for the sub mariner/conan and many more.

monk would have to be both stocky/ muscular and distinctive after all he was almost simian in appearence in the books, but since that is a tall order i guess bolo from enter the dragon would have been excellent, however he is a bit past it now, so a bulked up micheal chiklis would be next in line.

renny, definitaly dolph lundgren big and rawboned, although i am sure they could find a few others to fill in.

ham, would have to be dapper/graceful and wear clothes to great effect not to mention use a sword cane, so i gues ralph fiennes/guy pierce/or perry from veronicas closet might fit the bill.

long tom, i always pictured him as nerd with an attitude, maybe dutch from the shield but the field is open.

johnny well i hate to keep bringing the cast of the shield in to this agai but the hick member of the team who just killed his buddy with a grenade?

I'm almost tempted to want to see the whole thing done in CGI, including the characters, just because it would be hard to find good actors who match them physically. It would definitely be a mistake to set the movie anytime but the 1930s.

It would be great to include Pat Savage; a ride on Doc's private zeppelin would be nice too. (Why do I immediately think of a zeppelin when I mention Pat?)

reply

because you are a perv like the rest of us lol

reply

Yes, yes, yes thetheeyecreature! My thoughts exactly! A CGI reworking of some of the more popular Doc Savage books would work splendidly. That way you'd be able to see all those great characters that Lester Dent(aka Kenneth Robeson) created for the books(although if you get a look at the images on the back of the early Bantam paperbacks Doc looks way older than the writings describe him).

Each character is basically a caricature of reality. After all, take one of Doc's companions, Renny, his hands have to be out of proportion to the rest of his body(as do Monk's arms) so it's going to be difficult to find an actor with big hands(or, again, as in the case of Monk, long arms). A CGI animated reworking(as in 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within') would eliminate that then all the filmmakers have got to do is find the appropriate voice to go with the character.

Also don't forget Doc's trilling sound that he makes when he's startled or disturbed. I recently heard a radio serial(I got it on a CD) of a Doc Savage serial(Fear Cay) and it sounded like someone playing a penny whistle! They've got to get that right, at least, whether it's live action or CGI.

Yes, a CGI reworking of the books would be the right way to go! How about trying to persuade a production company like Pixar or Dreamworks to pick up the CGI option, huh?

John.

It's already been done. There's an 80's gay-porn remake called 'Cock Savage: The Fan of Schlongs'. 'Rockford Bottomz' played 'Cock'.
