Ron Ely as Doc

Though the movie sucked can we all agree that Ron made the Best Looking Doc?
I can't think of anyone else, then or now that has the look and the phyical presence that Ron did to Look like Doc.

He was very well cast in the role. Too bad the movie ended up being rather silly. It wasn't without a few good moments here and there, though.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Agreed! He was great. It would have been fantastic if they had taken it a bit more serious.

Agreed, Ron Ely played this with just the right amount of knowing look in his eye.

The movie is often ridiculed today. In my view it is unfairly judged against a type of movie that it was never intended be. This was designed to an entertaining romp, with it's tongue firmly set in it's cheek. And it succeeds with honours.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

Well, assuming you leave out Steve Holland (the Flash Gordon tv series, of old), who was the model for the James Bama covers, for the Bantam reprints.

I had an opportunity to meet Ron Ely in 2017, and I blew it. For a number of years some folks held a "DocCon" here in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area, and I finally decided to participate because I read that Ely was going to be there. Checked online and found out that I'd just missed it. Went the following year - the last year it was held, as it transpired - and met the author of a Doc comic book series and a lot of fellow fans and had a great time, but it certainly would have been great to meet Ron Ely and get some Doc Savage and Tarzan photos signed. Now, of course, sadly, given the recent tragedies in his life, Ely won't be making any more appearances.

Yes, Ron was a fine choice for Doc. Chuck Connors almost starred in a Doc Savage t.v. series in the '60s. (I don't believe they ever filmed the pilot, but some publicity photos exist, and Gold Key did a one-shot comic based on the story.) I recall there was talk for many years about Schwarzenegger starring in a big screen movie; if he'd stayed out of politics, he might have had time to actually do it. (Not sure how they'd have explained the accent.)
