Love this movie! Read the novelization as well

I'm a big fan of this movie. Sure, it's a great bad movie. But read the novelization. It fills in so many plot holes and explains more than the movie does about the coven, Corbis, the meaning of the Devil's Rain, and what happened at the end with Corbis and the girl, Julie.

Also, in the novelization, Travolta's character (called Nathan in the book version) has more dialog.

The novelization is a must read for fans of...The Devil's Rain!

Heaven help us all...when The Devil's Rain!

Just found a "poor" pb copy for ONLY $46. I think I'll pass until it gets back in print!

That's awesome, some of those novel tie-ins are awesome for helping to understand these kinds of movies, sometimes they have scenes from the script that were deleted and stuff. Or maybe just 'real' writers who make sense of a hack-editing job.

Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!

I don't get the "great bad movie" on this one. While it has its moments of silliness, they are few. The story is cool, the direction is swift, the locations are great and the art direction of the church and Satanic mass is pure gold. Then cap it off with one of the finest sinema climaxes ever, and you have a highly effective horror movie.

This film deserves a lot more respect than it gets. Its IMDB rating is typical considering the juvenile trolls that infest the internet.

Yes, I agree with you. The first time I watched this, I expected it to be cheesy and campy in the same vein as some of the movies on Mystery Science Theater 3000. But it was actually a legitimately good horror movie. I especially loved the special effects and think they were not only good by the standards of our time, but also by today's standards. I can't see why so many people seem to dislike it so much. It may not be the best horror movie in the world, but it's still better than many. All of the things you listed as positive qualities to the film, I agree with.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

Whilst watching it, I felt it was like a prequel to Halloween III, with the soulless disciples, which acted similar to the robots in HIII, gooey stuff coming out of the robots, was similar to the melting disciples.

If they got rid of the Stonehenge theft from the story, you could say, that it could have been a sequel to Devil's Rain, where the head satanist is using the cursed masks to collect the souls of kids, and adults for his Devil's Rain urn.

Tom Skerrit is back to try and save the day, but is unable to, as each mask is a conduit to the soul urn, so getting all the stations to switch off the Shamrock programme wouldn't have made a difference.
