My wife and I watched this film about 30 years ago, but we still remember it, especially the melting scene. Even then when we watched the film, we knew it was bad bad bad. However, it is a bad movie to be remembered.

Does anyone else have the feeling that the producer was plugging this to the director and cast as shoe-in Oscar material?

It had a stellar cast, even more than The Exorcist (1973) did, and I can imagine some cigar-chewing yutz shouting at Shatner et alia, Listen you numbnuts, every goddam one of ye is gonna get an oascar for this piece of *beep*

It is one of the best ever bad films.
When I'm watching the credits I'm thinking, Hey, this looks like it's going to be a really cool film. And I keep thinking that until Shatner appears.

When I saw the cast in the opening credits I was like, "Tom Skerritt? Now we're going to have a MOVIE!"

I had a weird dream after watching The Devil's Rain(1975). I was in a room covered with maggots and something demonic was in the room! There were also dead bodies scattered here and there. Maybe it was just the Summer heat mixed with several Betty Crocker brownies that caused the nightmare.

I can't put my finger on it, but there is something immensely intriguing and fascinating about this film. To me, it has an aura of mystery about it. It is a very entertaining film with a great story (that felt like a mixture of horror, fantasy, and western to me), wonderful special effects, and a great cast. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of '70s Satanic/supernatural horror films.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

Just watched this film on TV tonight. It's truly a tour de force of melted-cheesy, horrortastic fun...
Where else can you marvel at Ida Lupino, Ernest Borgnine, William Shatner AND John Travolta all camping it up so enormously!!

The cast, locations, sets, props and special effects are fine, but the satanism it so over-the-top it's more amusing than scary, the story is painfully dull, you don't care about the protagonists and there's too much filler (like the melting faces at the end that goes on and on).
