What a film!!

Me and Claire watched this film about 3 weeks ago and we want to know if any one else out there thinks that it is one of the funniest films they've seen in a while.
Let us know

Peace out

Having just watched this last night, ("Hands Of The Ripper" the night before, "The Uncanny" tonight), I must add my "praise" for this ridiculous, camp classic.

Whether it be the birth itself, "It's as though it doesn't want to be born!", to the little arm pushing the nurse, from the ludicrous Italian accents, "It's a dee-vall", to the music accompanying the "love-making", for purveyors of '70's British Horror movies, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Dreadful to be sure, though a guilty pleasure nonetheless.

i first watched this during the late 80's, late friday night on bbc1.I found it scarty at few stages, the rest was funny.

The only part of Italy Sardonic Sister Alvana and her wet brother could possibly be from is one built on a Hollywood backlot, that's where.

I do love this flick. It is a truly wonderful example of Hilarious Horror. It is, I believe, in the sub-genre of Joan Collins Mortgage Arrears Horror. She did what she had to! (and judging by the sex scenes, there was clearly nuthin' goin' on but the rent). Get our Joanie! A sprightly 42-year-old stripper who spurns dwarves and lives in Chelsea! I used to live near the square that she and Ralphy live in in the film - it's just off the King's Rd.

I think that backlot was in England, not Hollywood.

My dad and sister watched this recently (shown as The Monster) and had hysterics all the way through. My sister thought perhaps it was supposed to be funny, she really couldn't tell.

I was in tears laughing just hearing about it. I haven't seen it yet but I would like to. I will borrow the tape from my dad, I think.

reply

Yeah, I watched it as The Monster too.

It was pretty funny, but it was also entertaining. Even the pointless nudity made it more funny.

What it needed was Austin Powers playing the father: "YEEAAHH BABBBBY", "OH BEHAVE". But what other film has Donald Pleasence decapitated with a shovel, and Joan Collins's areola.

That midget is one disturbing looking dude!

One of my all time favourites, great cast and some funny moments as well as scary, mind you I'd watch anything with Joan Collins and Caroline Munro in it.

I actually had the pleasure of seeing this film in a theatre in when it first came out in '75 (titled THE DEVIL WITHIN HER) and again several years ago on cable and you all are right about the camp value especially during the final 2 scenes. Too bad no region 1 dvd.

reply

I saw this on VHS in the latter 1990s as The Devil Within Her. I don't recall La Joan stripping. If I recall, all she did was wear a Greek dancing dress and kick her legs up and down. That's stripping?
I lost interest early on when the little tyke groaned or screamed, and Joan walked into the room, and saw the room a big mess. She rolls her eyes and tells Caroline Munro what the "bleep" is going on.

Having just finished reading my copy of FAB Press’s indispensable tome Ten Years Of Terror for the umpteenth time, I laughed out loud at Nigel Burrell’s epigrammatic review of I Don’t Want To Be Born, in particular his closing remark:

The recipe for “I Don’t Want To Be Born” is this; mix one part “The Exorcist” to one part “The Omen”. Add in a healthy dose of corn and stir until it’s half-baked. Serve immediately to a public hungry for any old horror crap, and duck to avoid any flying vomit from dissatisfied punters”

How apt.

... and, did you enjoy it?

What we see as spectacle is in fact a ceremony

I thought it was a blast!

A classic funnyBad.

That dwarf is extraordinarily spiteful. Stripper Joan scorns his advances and he immediately loses it. "You will have a baby, a monster, an evil monster conceived in your womb as big as I am small and possessed by the devil himself!!!"
