DEEWAAR Itself Was A Remake Of GUNGA JUMNA

Maybe most of the posters in this DEEWAAR message board are kids not old enough to remember Hindi cinema from the '70s and earlier, having lived DURING the '70s itself, when DEEWAAR was released back in 1975...

I distinctly remember theater audiences remarking that it seemed like a copy of GUNGA JUMNA(1961). The screenwriting duo of Salim-Javed were really plagiarists of Hollywood, European, and HK cinema as well as their own Hindi cinema...

GUNGA JUMNA [alluding to the confluence of the two rivers] was written & produced by none other than the original King of Hindi cinema DILIP KUMAR; dialogue by Wajahat Mirza.

Real life brothers Yusuf Khan[aka Dilip Kumar] and Nasir Khan played the onscreen brothers on opposite sides of the law : Dilip Kumar the outlaw(baghi); Nasir Khan the cop. The cop brother ends up killing his badass older brother in the movie's climax.

Anyone seen GUNGA JUMNA(1961) in this message board??

DEEWAAR-'75 was loosely remade with some variations as YUDH(1985) with Anil Kapoor & Jackie Shroff.

And anyone who thinks that DEEWAAR-'75 is the greatest or 2nd greatest Hindi movie of all-time needs to undergo a lobotomy...LOL!

FYI, it was a toss up as to who had the most famous line of dialogue in the whole movie...Many thought it was Shashi Kapoor's character when he replied "Mere pas Ma hai..."
