Brilliant film!

This is one of the most underrated films ever in the history of cinema! If the crew had a bigger budget and the story was more stretched out I feel it would rival Goodfellas. Its much more gritty and realistic than The Godfather and I feel that you get much more of an insight into the mafia here than most other gangster movies. Plus the acting is superb with Joe Pesci, Frank Vincent and Joe Contese.

I'll 3rd that + I am really surprised that this film has such a low rating. It's absolutely top hull in my books.

i agree... especially with the ultra low budget. It is amazing what alot of $$$ can do for a film if it is put to use the right way.

I remember seeing this movie on late night TV once about 15 years ago. I was totally mesmerized. Awesome movie.

Bought it on DVD for a dollar and really enjoy it!

me too me too !...at Dollarama (how can they make a profit?) but the company was too cheap to even print anything on the DVD itself (both sides were blank...and same color)...I had to take it out and flip it over after watching the test pattern for 5 minutes...

Terrible. Cortese was terrible. Pesci was good. Frank Vincent's hair was worth seeing.

You can see how this movie gave birth to GOODFELLAS and the SOPRANOs. A bit amateurish at times but overall extremely watchable and well done!

if you notice on the dvd cover .. it say's the Mean Streets just got meaner, what a perfect headline, and you know what, this is probably one of best low-budget movies to me EVER. it comes pretty close to mean streets to name one off of the top of my head, and from living in Jersey for over 10 years most of those movie created characters are true,, look at John Gotti.

yeah i think Godfather is overrated, this to me is a better film.

Mafia/crime/gang movies are my favorite genre and IMO this is one of the best, some of the acting is (supposedly) not that good. It is very gritty and has a good balance of comic relief, you will be suprised. This inspired future mafia films greatly. I've watched this one at least 6 times.

Just watched on youtube FREE movies. What a great low budget film. Griity,raw and real. Must see for mob film fans.....
