Now, THAT'S a Movie Premiere!

No PR Agent could ever create that much "excitement" and "hysteria" over a movie premiere.

But, honestly, even if that is what is in the book, the movie goes WAY too far! It just becomes Apocalypse Now on steroids rather than an indictment of Hollywood, or whatever the author was going for.

The announcer mistaking a riot for "excitement" of the fans was the key point of commentary. The rest just went on and on. They could have just had the general pandemonium of the crowd across the street, and the fan magazines and related Hollywood iconography being torn up or destroyed. That would have made the point of the made-up Hollywood vs. what life is really like.

All the stuff being set on fire, things blowing up, etc. turned it into something truly beyond belief. Doing things in a book is different from doing things on film.

I thought it was a terrifyingly great scene. I won't forget it.
