Child stomping scene

SPOILER ALERT!!

Jackie Earle Haley dressed as, what seems like, a little girl, then getting the *beep* stomped outta him. Disturbing!!!

reply

I shouldn't be happy about a child getting stomped to death, but I was cheering when Sutherland was stomping on that kid. What an annoying piece of sh*t.

Yes, I was happy too, hated that kid.

Great scene leading to an even more incredible scene.

Short Cut, Draw Blood

I agree that Adore (Haley) deserved some sort of retribution for hitting Homer with the rock. However, it DID go way too far. The lighting on that scene makes it look even more bizarre and disturbing.

I believe bizarre and disturbing is what they were going for.

If you dint want him dead, why yall leave him with me?-Mouse

However, it DID go way too far.
True, but Sutherland succeeded in turning Homer into a volcano waiting to explode.🐭

reply

I cheered. What a brat.

I despised Adore with a passion and was happy when Homer started getting his licks in. Then Adore's insides started coming out of his mouth and I was no longer happy. I felt terrible for him, guilty at myself for initially wishing him harm, and revulsion toward Homer... who previously had had my deepest sympathies.
A film that dares -- and succeeds -- in challenging one's feelings in such a way, offering no easy emotional trajectory, is a truly brilliant film indeed.

Just watched it last night. Very true to the book. The last 15 minutes of the film were horrific. Adore's mother wanted him to be "Shirley Temple" (why does she get all the attention and jobs). So she dressed and treated him as a girly boy. She also beat and abused him and he was a mean kid. Homer had had enough humiliation for the day (a lifetime really) so when the kid threw the rock he went ballistic and I can't blame him. All people in the book/film were defective people.
