Is There a Movie or TV Series that Do Justice to the Novel?

The Monte Cristo novel is one of the most beloved books in my life. I've read it many times and it feels new each time I do so. I first read it in Romanian, my mother tongue, when I was 10 years old. (I learned to read when I was four and was reading grown-up novels by the time I was eight, causing my mother palpitations when she found the books.) Later it was the first book I read in two languages new to me (Hebrew and, later, English) and learning the languages was easy, because it was my beloved Monte Cristo that I was reading about.
The 1975 movie is decent but, being a TV movie less than two hours long, skips the best parts. (De Villefort's baby, Danglars's opera-loving lesbian daughter, Valentine's poisoning are all missing.)
The two other versions I watched - the Jim Caviezel movie and the Gerard Depardieu's series were painful to watch. The changes, nay, distortions, of the original are simply a crime.
Anybody know anything about the BBC series or any other version out there? (I did watch the 1934 movie and the Japanese cartoon series. Meh.)

If they did a version that was faithful to the book it would have to be split into a minimum of 3 movies (realistically I am thinking 4 or 5)
