The power of music in film...

...when it's done well - the beginning with the opening piano chords of Baby Love immediately draw me in and make me know this will be a bittersweet nostalgic tale...

But the end, wow. I first saw Cooley High in the seventies, I would guess in '77-'79, when it was first shown on TV. This was before I had the broad range of musical taste and appreciation for so many of the different types of music out there, so it's not like Motown was really on my radar at that time, other than my uncle being a huge Motown fan. But I remember (I was only about 10), when Preach leaves and the screen freezes, and the opening of Reach Out (I'll Be There) begins - that image haunted me from that time on, and has always stayed with me. Just brilliant matching of music to film. There are other samples in CH, but these are the 2 that really stand out to me.
