The Hephaestus Plague

The book of the movie is well worth getting a hold of. It is brilliantly written and very atmospheric. The character of James Lang Parmiter is iconic.

Agree . . .i think the author was Thomas Paige, who wrote some other books that were somewhat unusual. Book is quite chilling . . .

Its taken me 3 days internet searching to find the title of this book. I read it when I was in junior high and loved it, with the Andromeda Strain mini series out it flashed back in my memory. I never realized it was made into a movie. I will have to try to find it. It looks like the Book is going to be reprinted this year. Maybe a new movie version will be in the works also.

What I remember about the novel - I read it in 1974, I think - was that much of it took place in New York and the city is heavily damaged by fire in the final scenes. I guess the budget of the movie didn't allow for scenes on that scale.

I am reading it right now. If you weren't able to find a copy, you can do what I did. I asked for the book from my local library's interlibrary loan program. It was actually in a college library within my state. A hardcover copy, with a drawing of the Hephaestus on it.

I remember reading the book and then being amazed they made a movie of it. Couldn't wait to see it and from what I remember it was pretty good. About to watch it again and I hope it is as good as I remembered.

Just to clarify, I don't think the book is of the movie, that is, a novelization of a script, but rather, the movie script is based on Page's novel.
