Jerry Goldsmith's score

It's a simple theme and variations, but adds tremendously to the excitement of the action.

At times the score mimics the sound and dynamics of a train. A similar approach was used by Richard Rodney Bennett in his oscar nominated score for Murder on the orient express (1974), which was also set on a train.

Goldsmith's music to the Great Train Robbery (1978) also mimics the sound of a train on the tracks. You can hear it in the ostinato rhythm "dun...dun dun... dun dun... dum dun." https://youtu.be/Cs4djp2cZ6Y

I love that main theme. It's incredibly rousing.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Isn't that the always the case though? Goldsmith's music NEVER failed to elevate any movie. To call him immortal would be to insult him.

Agreed. Goldsmith came through with an extremely robust and rousing score.

It is a great score for that movie, but then Goldsmith never disappoints.
