Did the unicorn lie? (spoilers)

When the unicorn left, it said it wouldn't be back for 154 years.

Then in the last scene, it reappears! But it doesn't seem 154 years had passed, at least within Lilly's fantasy world.

So, did the unicorn lie, or was it an event, such as the passing of the old lady, give it a reason to return earlier?

I assumed that "154" was some kind of symbolic reference, and went off trying to figure out what it meant. It turns out that "154 days" is the typical length of a sunspot cycle these days.

My guess is the general flavor of "astrology" is what was intended. I don't think it was meant specifically or literally.
