This is a romp and just loads of fun;terrific cast-even those from the original film !-some 35 yrs later !
Segal is in his element, looks good in the part as world-weary and jaded as they get...yet there is wit and repartee flying left & right as a pie might find its mark on an unsuspecting face:to be sure, this is a type of cartoonish parody which entertains and can endear itself on a discriminating audience.
Moreover, this is the magnificent city of Frisco which gave us the immortal Vertigo, and so,it is revealing how the same city can be used from the sublime to the ridiculous.I believe similarly Mel Brooks achieved the familiar effect with High Anxiety -which pre-dates Black Bird.
The music has a subtle quality of danger though that is infrequent and often is circusy with a light frothy top.
The 70's appears a bit nostalgic and it is hard to believe we are removed from this production over 30 years later...nonetheless,this little tale is nothing more than a diversion from the stress of daily life and is plainly escapist fare to be revisited as often as one wishes...I know, I intend to....

I thought it was hilarious, with "Airplane!"-style gags every few seconds. This is a throwback to the screwball comedies of the Marx brothers, the cast actually seems to care, and there are great shots of the seedier side of San Francisco in the '70s. It made me laugh quite a bit, which is more than I can say for most comedies these days.

Did this film anticipate the "Jaws" phenomenon with the final scene, or was it just a coincidence that they both came out in 1975?
