With Valentines Day approaching, I have wondered about that as well. And I would not know about the past few years, because I have not had acess to a TV since 1996, but I always realized they never showed it in the 1980s or early 1990s, like they did the Halloween, Christmas, and Easter Peanuts specials. I do remember seeing it in the late 1970s while in elementary school, right before Valentines Day, and I liked it-though not as much as the other specials. But it would be good to see it on again at this time of year. As for the new version, from 2002, I was not aware of it until just came across it here, but Charles Shultz died on February 12, 2000, so apparently it was made without his approval/imput-so I'm not sure if I'd like to watch it.
