The hats that Barry and Bullingdon have on during the duel sequence - anachronism?


The hats they had on in this scene looked more like hats that would have been worn 50 - 75 years after the era in which this film is set? Did that style of hat come in with the style in the 1700s or was this a historical accuracy error?

The hats didn't appear that anachronistic to me, but I decided to look into this anyway.

I looked up 18th century hat styles and here is an image of different French styles from around 1789-1790. Some of the hats resemble what we see in the duel scene, though obviously this might in itself be slightly anachronistic since the latter part of BL takes place during the 1770s, I believe.

Oh wow - one can see how several of these hat designs were pre-cursors to the cowboy style hats of the 1800s
