the ending of the movie?

I saw it in the MST3K-Version, i liked it (not the movie, but MST3K), but I don´t get the ending. Why does the woman suddenly go into the sea?

I think part of his plan was to turn a woman into something that could live underwater. His first attempt failed but Martha worked out so, at the end, she walks into the ocean.

I don't have time to jaw with anyone who won't identify himself!

But why does she even WANT to go into the ocean? When the monster appeared she screams and fights, then she becomes unconsious and after she wakes up, she goes into the ocean for no reason.
