Tales from the Hood

Tales From the hood is a contemporary remake (loosely) of this film. It basically follows the same format, well worth a view as a companion piece.

Actually, "Tales From the Crypt" and "Vault of Horror" were probably Spike Lee's inspiration for "Tales From the Hood". This movie probably was too obscure to get on the radar of Spike Lee.

It's too bad there wasn't a sequel to "Tales From the Hood", as it wasn't groundbreaking.

I wonder if Spike Lee cited this as inspiration for "Tales of the Hood"? This is certainly a kindred spirit, though it's rather obscure. Great film, though -- as was "Tales of the Hood." Anthologies are usually a mixed bag, but both of these films work.

I think he was more inspired with "Tales from the Crypt", not the television series but the 1970's movie with the poster that had a spider webbed covered skull. What made the promotional art for "Tales From the Hood" amusing is the skull had one of the teeth covered with a gold cap fashionable with inner city drug dealers. Funny s**t!

Yes, "Tales From the Crypt" was a lot more popular. It's just that "House of Death" and "Tales From the Hood" both had morticians lecturing people on their wayward ways. Regardless, I really liked both films (plus "Tales From the Crypt" and the various other horror anthologies). I wish there were more horror anthologies today.

Wow, I didn't make that connection (the mortician). Yes, I can see it. Another great anthology film was "Vault of Horror".

I'm surprised that "Tales From the Hood" wasn't made into a franchise. I think it would have made television series along the lines of "Tales From the Crypt".

"Tales From the Hood" would have been a great franchise, and I would think it would have a built-in audience. Television programming feels so lazy these days, with "reality" shows that try to provide a quick fix and have extremely short shelf lives.

I haven't seen "Vault of Horror," but I shall seek it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
