Why Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world... but for Wales?
In the movie she returns at the end with her baby and the family reunites. I always felt she is only visiting for a bit so they know she is alive and for her family to meet her son. She loves her Indian husband and will (I feel) return to him.
