If this movie came out today (2006)

I just watched this movie for the first time since I was a kid. And I have to admit, I really enjoyed it. I couldn't help thinking how this movie would do if it came to theaters today. The idea of "escaping it all" has never been more appealing. And although their cabin was built a little "too quickly" (complete with windows), and the movie had other far-fetched sequences, the idea is believable, even more so now vs. 1975.
Imagine a wilderness with no Internet, cable TV, cell phones, blackberries, and hip hop music? Actually, yes, that sounds quite appealing to me, thank you.
The movie was rated G in 1975 but probably would get a PG today. Despite the constant exposure kids have to violence and sex on TV, on the Internet, and in music, the MPAA seems to exist in some sort of bubble and would stamp anything with a cougar attack against the father (complete with a little bloodshed) and kids in peril with a PG (or even PG-13) rating. The inconsistency in censorhip is another argument for another day.
But I'm glad this and others I remember from the mid '70s (Across the Great Divide, etc) are getting released on DVD. Now would someone please bring out the Sun Classic documentaries like Beyond and Back and Mysterious Monster?

These go to 11

Rather than remake it (Hollywood really needs to start making new movies!) maybe take the idea of the movie and make a new movie based on this one.

better idea...too bad it just isn't cleaned up and re released (kind of like the star war episodes IV-VI, you know the "Special edition")...THAT would be NICE, wholesome entertainment that is too far and few between these days....my kids (9 & 4) LOVE all three movies plus Across the Great Divide...they were classics in my house, and I can't imagine my kids growing up not knowing "the good stuff!"

They should have a movie where the kids are all grown up and have gone crazy from the constant bear/wolf/cougar attacks. Some unsuspecting hippies stumble upon their cabin and.....

This film wouldn't get to the theaters before the liberals started whining about animal abuse (before knowing any facts, of course).

I envision that scenario almost every day.
