nobody cries...

I was thinking, the characters watch so many tragedies and nobody gives a tiny tear. Never.

Bravery under fire is okay, self control is okay, but this a little exaggerated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not true. A schoolboy featured in one episode. During one scene the character broke down in tears when he said every single pupil in his school died.

okay, but watch the first episode, the two female leading characters watch a dead friend and the dead husband and it seems it was something normal...

I did find there was less signs of grief that you'd think. I do remember in one of the early episodes Abby does break down when she fails to find her son, making it seem likely at the time that he had died.

tears ran down Abby's face when she cast the deciding vote to execute Barney.

That was an amazing moment. She was so cold and matter of fact up till that point.

That's the clock done, now for the chairs.

Don't forget this was the 1970s. The British 'stiff upper lip' was still normal back then - there were still people around who had vivid memories of the Blitz and who had served in the war and the national service campaigns of the 50s, they just couldn't afford to break down in tears all the time. When they did, it was usually done in private to keep up morale with others.

I know people of this generation and even when bereaved I have seen them keep up appearances and remain composed in public at funerals etc.

It's just that in our modern era we have become used to the idea that we should 'let it all hang out' and weep and wail at the slightest excuse.
