Other post-apocalyptic works - survivors was not the first

On reviewer stated: "If you consider that it was broadcast before anyone had ever heard of A.I.D.S., H.I.V., B.S.E., C.J.D. or G.M.O.s then I think it fair to say it was way ahead of it's time. "

I disagree. There have been post-apocalyptic scifi for decades before that. The first I read was Earth Abides from 1949, but before that there was The Last Man (Mary Shelly), 1826 and Jack London's 'The Scarlet Plague'. Also 'I am Legend' (1950s)
