Did Starsky call it a day?

In the very last episode of series 4 called Sweet Revenge, Starsky is shot almost fatally. He even died for a few minutes but was revived. Do you think the episode had a deeper meaning implying that Starsky would leave the police force due to his injury; in which case the partnership would come to an end, which coincides with the final episode.

Yeah I think so. In the first script, It was written that Starsky was going to die. According to Leonard Goldberg who was producing the show with Aaron Spelling, the producers changed their minds at the last minute and had the script changed so that he lives. I think that it's better to have Starsky live because: A) the audience can decide as to whether he quit or stayed a cop. And B) in case they decide to have a reunion a few years later.

Indeed, after all those years of episodes, only to be killed off at the end.
