The Moon was blasted out of Earth orbit! I miss it!

But Martin Landau made it back by 2015. I met him then in LA.

Good series. Well, at least the first one was.

It started out as the second series of Gerry Anderson UFO but somehow morphed into Space 1999.

It was a big deal when it hit UK TV in the early 70s. It looked very expensive for a TV show at that time (not so much now).

The effects work, particularly the practical models of the spaceships were incredible, and it was only a few years before Star Wars.
Many of the effects people would work on Star Wars as well.

Unfortunately there was a change of producer on the second season, and he wanted it to be more action orientated and lots more weird aliens. So gone were the more esoteric and trippy aliens of the first series, and in came the silly men in alien suits. And the score was like a mixture of very bad soft rock and disco.

Definitely the 1st season was better, but I still liked the 2nd with Maya, etc. I mean it was still Space 1999. I used to watch this on NYC antennae TV in the '70s, station WPIX channel 11 for any tristaters out there. Now of course we can stream the whole series; who'da thought!

I am not sure what the quality of the streaming broadcasts are, but a few years ago in the UK they remastered the series for blu ray, and for an old 70s TV show it looked absolutely pristine.

Produced and created by Gerry Anderson. He did all the Supermarionation shows with puppets and miniature models.

What’s the Moon ever done for me? Good riddance!

His name is so cool.

Say it out loud,

I haven't watched much of this series but it was on Shout TV tonight and caught the last half of it. Odd episode. One of the crew changed herself into a bird and then later an insect. The look of the show is pretty good, decent production, not wild about the uniforms. My favorite part was the beautiful Barbara Bain who for some reason walked around in a fairly revealing dress.
