In the early episodes of series 2 Maya's ears were 'made up' to be brown like the markings on here face. Then all of a sudden they were normal (for humans that is !). Did they forget to make her up in one episode and then just run with it for the rest?

No, after a few episodes they decided the makeup was making her ears look "dirty". They could've explained by having Maya thank Helena for the box of Q-Tips, that Psychon had run out of.

Storywise she just altered her physiogamy to more resemble her human friends on the Base!
