Bergman, Paul and Kano

Were they written out for season 2 or did they just vanish like in a lot of other shows?

Where did Tony come from?

Kano left in a huff because he could not marry Computer

reply

Fred Freiberger despised season one and did his best to pretend it didn't exist. His original intention was to bring back Martin Landau and Barbara Bain and that was it. He changed his mind and asked Zienia Merton and Anton Phillips to return as familiar faces, but without contracts, so they were payed peanuts.
Nick Tate received a ton of fan mail and that fact was brought to Freiberger's attention; he reluctantly decided to re-sign Tate, after eight episodes had already been written (resulting in some of them being rewritten to include Carter).
Kano, Paul, and Tanya were treated as never had existed, but on "The Metamorph" Bergman's death was explained by having worn a faulty space helmet (contained in a scene deleted from syndication; a minute was removed from each completed episode and was not restored on disc).
After two appearances Phillips quit the show. Zienia then left also and was replaced by Yasko (played by the wife of series director Ray Austin). However, Barbara Bain later talked Merton into returning.
We're expected to believe that Tony had been a security guard when the moon left Esrth, rising up the ranks to become first officer (I hate that term - it's Star Trek plagiarism; but worse was calling Maya the base's science officer - it's not a military base).

Well then, let me apologize for a question I asked you in another thread about Paul being first officer.  Sorry 'bout that.

That's OK. You were just getting your point across. It irks me that they used the officer title on the show - that was all Freiberger I'm sure. Trying to appeal to Star Trek fans, like having Helena say "I'm a doctor, John, not a miracle worker" on "All That Glisters".
Main Mission Controller was actually Paul's title.

Mention of Bergman's death didn't make the final cut of "The Metamorph."

reply

Ah, but it did. For some reason the complete episodes were 52 minutes long, but trimmed to 51 minutes for syndication. They were not restored for release on disc.

reply

Yes, Fred Freiberger continued his unbroken string of messing up a good thing.

reply

He severely underestimated the intelligence of viewers.

I believe the scene with Tony mentioning Victor's death was filmed but it was never put into the episode! Whether it still exists is doubtful now as if it had of done it would have been included with the DVD sets or inserted on the net!
