WHY IS SNL SO DIFFERENG NOW?

This is long oops sorry... I watch it like a ritual and I can't figure out as a whole what it is that made it go so down hill. I feel like before (and I love the cast now, I notice the new members are starting to share their own talents) the cast was so talented with impressions and if not they made sure to learn them on the way (Adam Samburg I think said he was bad at impressions but he learned to do them on the show). Today I feel like Kate is always doing all the big impressions or they have a guest celeb come in to do it. Not that either didn't do the impression justice it's just I wonder could anyone else do it?
What situation recently aggrevated me was how the Super Bowl was coming up, as Colin Jost says "...here to talk about the Super Bowl..." I think some cast member will impersonate a football player but instead freaking David Ortiz comes onto the screen. WHAT?! Yeah okay he's talking about what he's going to do while watching the game and it's a funny sketch, but I've already seen it done multiple times, Ortiz retired, the baseball season is over, and we are talking about football. It's not even the same thing and I know very little about sports. So it seems like they are running out of ideas or people to do impressions and it is just killing me. I just picture Colin saying "okay I need someone to interview for the Super Bowl can anyone inpersonate a football player in the game? No? How about a football player?" And Keenan just says "I can do David Ortiz..." and they just agree to it because it's the best they got. I love Keenan I love that he's been on for so long I don't think that because of how long he's been on it makes him less funny I just think that if the whole cast doesn't bring up new impressions they flunk. Their jokes are cheesy because they don't know what to do and they aren't focusing on impressions? I'm so hurt it's to the point where I slam SNL but hey, I heard a Owen Wilson recently and if that continues then maybe Dave Chapelle doesn't have to come back and save us... he is welcome to though anytime.

The show is about characters. It's Live and tries to be topical. They don't have time to flush out a new character every week for every new event. They milk the same characters for as long as possible, not because it's the easy way out, but because the other way is too damn hard and will fail more often than not.
