i've to to say that Bob Reid is one of my all time soap characters. he's one of those rare breeds...a daytime male character that shows strength and vulnerbility an maintains a strong masculinity. Earl Hindman was perfectly cast in this role. Richard Van Vleet as Chuck Tyler on All My Children had similar qualities.
It is a shame that the Bob Reid character was not used more in the show. He never had a real love interest. He was together with Alicia in the early days and that never took off. Now the thing with Faith never materialized. Too bad because he did have good potential. I also agree about RVV as Chuck Tyler - he was a great character. Would love to see those episodes repeated!!
Yeah...poor dependable Bob-always the "best friend" to Frank and listening to his botched up love-life on top of Dee's as well! And anytime, he was interested in a woman, she always had "eyes" for someone else i.e.-Mary,Alicia, Nancy Feldman,Faith (Karen Morris-Gowdy)...
He had that hang dog look, always doing clean up for Saint Frank of Riverdale along with Mary. My thoughts about him has changed since I first saw RH. I use to feel bad for the guy and I still do but in a different way. He was just as bad in his neediness for the Ryan's as Delia, but instead of marrying Saint Frank he was like his puppy dog. I remember times Frank had no use for Bob. But Bob always came back like a faithful puppy. he pined in silence for Mary. They were condescending .
I think the Ryan's created the co-dependency that Delia and Bob have for them and it is sad. See even though the Ryan's practically raised Delia and knew she would do anything to be a Ryan they treated her badly, even though they were the cause of her dependency. How I wished that Bob and Delia would tell the Ryan's to shove that bar up their butts
