Barbara & Julie today

Do you think an updated sitcom with just Barbara & Julie could work today? I could easily see the scenario where Schneider somehow got ownership of the building at some point and leaves it to Barbara & Julie where the show would begin.

Both now in their 50's with family gone, they move in together to manage the building and even live in their old apartment. Barbara could be a widow and Julie of course never went back to Max and is still single herself.

Ann is gone too so the sisters come together after years of not speaking and the premise could be them attempting to form a relationship with each other again. And Julie trying to bond with her grown daughter who hates her guts.

I would love to see this version over that horrid sounding Netflix remake that's coming.

(My other posts here are under "Beachbirds" but for the life of me, I cannot get into that account anymore. So i'm for now on under this name!)

That would be awesome!! However I wouldn't want Barbara to be a widow. I think her and Mark should be divorced. I'd like to see Boyd Gaines and Michael Lembeck do guest appearances or be recurring characters!!

I'm thinking either Barbara took fertility drugs and ended up having babies or Mark and her ended up adopting. Therefore they would still have a bond somehow having children and now even grandchildren together. And Max and Julie having Annie together, and they might have grandchildren now too. to explain why Boyd and Michael would be recurring characters!!

You're probably right. Having Mark dead would be overkill (pun intended lol) on the death with both Schneider and Ann gone. Having all that loss would be too depressing.

I agree having Barbara naturally having children makes sense with fertility drugs. I think there's so much that can be done and explored with Barbara & Julie's characters in today's era, and with their history that they can easily be the center of a new sitcom.

It's a shame Norman Lear apparently decided to "re-imagine" the whole series set in Miami with a Hispanic family for Netflix rather than revisit these original characters.

I think this premise would work great but I would hate to see Mark and Barbara split up. I enjoy Michael Lembeck though like another lady I know😉 and would watch him read the phone book.

I think reuniting the two sisters would be wonderful. Maybe with the success of Hot In Cleveland they can find a project for Mack and Val to do together if not as The Cooper Sisters than some other premise.

LOL!!! Yes that would be me!!! I'm that lady!!! And yes!!! I would LOVE if Michael Lembeck would turn up in a TV show or movie doing anything !! (even reading the phonebook) LOL!!! !!! I think he's happy just directing now though!

I wonder if he thinks nobody really would remember him or care to see him now because he's older? That's not the case at all!! We all age ,and I love him regardless of a little aging and white hair!! Not a problem. Still a beautiful man, inside and out!!!

From what I know, Michael is a very good man, a devoted family man, husband, Father and Grandfather, and he still has fans such as myself that love him and would LOVE to see him again acting!!

Ideally if he would reprise his role as Max and there was a ODAAT made for TV movie or mini series with Mack, Valerie and Boyd that would be SO COOL AND AWESOME!!!!

FWIW: Barbara's diagnosis makes her a candidate for in vitro fertilization or intra-uterine transfer, not fertility drugs. Her problem wasn't fertility per se, it was blocked Fallopian tubes.

Which definitely opens the possibility for her to have children. The more I think about the updated premise, the more I wish it would happen. Revisiting these characters in their 50's would be so interesting and fun, even if it were just a one time tv movie.

reply

Right. She had endometriosis ! I thought that was far fetched how they diagnosed that from a routine ( first) gyno exam! Barbara was a virgin and she didn't have pain or wasn't sick. I thought it was odd that they would find this out from a first pelvic exam?

reply

The interesting thing would be, Barbara would look EXACTLY the same!

reply

She would!!!!
