I can't believe the entire cast is basically deceased

Only some of the kids and Marla Gibbs are left from the cast and they all died relatively young. I never really saw that in a show before. I know Little House had quite a few deaths but they still have a bulk left. The Jefferson's are wiped out. Sad. A great show though. I'll never forgive CBS for not giving it a proper ending.

reply

I can believe it. Most of the cast were already middle-aged when the show started in '75. How old were expecting 'Weezie' to get?

reply

Yeah, it's been shocking for years now. Only Florence left. Honestly many of the cast members appeared somewhat unhealthy. George looked stressed out, Weezie was overweight at times, Willis was overweight, etc.

The really shocking part is the 1st Lionel died relatively young in his 50s of throat cancer! Even Ralph the doorman and Charlie the bartender are gone!

reply

true they were older already but the OP was just stating that is sad how most of them are deceased already that's all

reply

omg I was thinking the same thing just yesterday crazy huh lol

yeah the doorman, the british man, helen, helen husband, george, louise, george mother im assuming, only one left is florence it seems

reply

Mother Jefferson was the first one to go in '78(?), then Roxie Roker in the 90's and on up.

reply

They're all "movin on up" to heaven! 

In Lenny Kravitz' Behind the Music episode they said that Roxie Roker passed away of cancer in December 1995 right after Zoe's 7th birthday. She was 66.

reply

Here's the order of deaths amongst "The Jeffersons" principal cast:

Other cast members who are also deceased:

Cast members who are still living:

Marla Gibbs
Damon Evans
Berlinda Tolbert
Jay Hammer
Ernest Harden, Jr.
Ebonie Smith

Yes, it's a shame most of the cast are deceased now, as most of them were middle-aged & older when the sitcom began airing 41 years ago. All of these people will live on in reruns forever. R.I.P., to the above thirteen cast members who are no longer with us.

You should list the show names of those "other cast members" who died. I know one of them is Leroy. Leroy was HILARIOUS! It's shocking he died only 3 years after the show ended! He didn't even look THAT old.

reply

If you reread my post above your latest post, you'll see that I did include the actor who played "Leroy" - Vernon Washington (who died @ age 60 in 1988). Basically, I included all principal & non-principal actors from "The Jeffersons" in said post, & I attempted to leave no one out.

Isabel Sanford lived to be 87 I believe. She was 68 when the show ended in 1985 but she sure never looked her age just like co-star Marla Gibbs looked much younger than she was as well. She's currently 84. I'm thinking Ned Wertimer who played Ralph lived to be 87 having passed away a couple of years ago. The big shock was indeed Mike Evans who was in his early 50's when he passed away

It's pretty shocking that Sherman didn't live nearly as long as Isabel did. Isabel was borderline overweight to overweight and I heard she loved that southern soul food cooking which isn't exactly healthy!

reply

I ♥ southern food; esp. 🍗

reply

Mike was a big shock indeed and very young.

Roxie was also a shock for many at the time when she died from Breast Cancer in 1995. and although 9 years older 66 is still young. But no one knew she was sick so when it came out that she died it was a shock.

reply

I agree that Roxie, and Mike Evans' deaths where the most unexpected ones. Everyone else, while sad to see them go, it was only a matter of time (once the 2000's came in).

reply

Even toward the end of the Jeffersons run Roxie was losing weight and starting to look a little sickly. She didn't look as healthy as she did earlier in the series.

reply

Yep, Marla Gibbs, Damon Evans, Berlinda Tolbert, & Ebonie Smith (Jessica) are still alive.

reply

now first allen willis is gone now to

reply

Jay Hammer, the 2nd Allan is still living. He was only in one season but was in the opening credits that year.

reply

The original actor who played Allan Willis was Andrew Rubin, who was in the Season One episode titled "Jenny's Low". Andrew died last year.

R.I.P., Andrew Rubin.

It was 40 years ago!

Well, everyone dies eventually. What do you want?

In a rather weird & ironic twist in regard to this OP relating to the cast members' deaths, the episode "George's Dream" comes to mind. That's the episode where George has a dream about his future - where it's 1996 & all the characters are senior citizens (except George, of course). A very funny episode!!!

They all died from exposure to all of the dry cleaning chemicals in George's business.

reply

How exactly is someone "basically deceased"?

reply

That there may be hope for continuity at another level of existence? 😛

reply

The first guy who played Allan Willis is gone now too. Andrew Rubin died in 2015.
