can a season really be that short?

JoAnna Cameron said in an interview that the show never got canceled, it just didn't get a renewed contract for the third year. But the second season lasted less than two months with only seven episodes. Doesn't sound like a full season to me.

Hi! I'm glad someone else mentioned that as well? Seven episodes? I recall being so disappointed back in 1977!

reply

Well it just sounds like it was canceled in the second season.

The average season for a Saturday morning show (of that era) was 13 episodes. Given the production costs for the live action series, it could have been commissioned for fewer episodes by the network.

I only vaguely remember this show....Did it rotate with Shazam or were they back-to-back?

If it rotated with Shazam maybe it was Shazam for 6 or 7 episodes then Isis for 7 episodes.

Not renewing a show is the same as cancelling it. And the thinking back then was that kids were willing to watch the same episodes ad infinitum on Saturday mornings, so no need to waste money making 20 or more episodes per season.

And don't forget, they didn't just rerun the second season, they reran both seasons all the time. So after the 7 episodes of season 2 were shown, they started right back up with airing season 1 again.

The show wasn't rotated with Shazam. I believe they aired back to back for her two seasons, when it was known as the Shazam!/Isis Hour, then the third year her show aired alone as The Secrets of Isis. Hope this helps.
