what was up between basil and roger?

or perhaps i should say "what was roger's problem", you know the episode where basil had some of their friends over, there really seemed to be alot of hostile tension between basil and roger, at one point roger even says "up yours, basil!", and as this reruns alot i keep picking up on new things, like how there seem to be some bond between them in how basil understands that roger knows that sybil really isn't upstairs, you can read it from his face expression and voice when he says "roger...". anyway, that is all a bit much, but one of the funniest episodes i think.
