I have noted that the quality of recent DVDs and VHS tapes for the 1975 movie Zorro are not that great. Also, some portions of the movie that I found quite entertaining have been omitted. Is this because there are no longer any decent film prints for this movie still in existence?
sharethat version has not been released yet. In los angeles, it was last on khj-tv channel 9 in 85' or so. I have been looking for it for years with no luck. I taped it but the vhs tapes is starting to wear.
sharewe recorded it in tacoma in the mid 80's and have only found one copy since. and it too has scenes that have been omitted. like the entire first scene in the restaurant where diego meets his old friend and his family. very disapointing.
shareI recall this showing up on the CBS late night movie in the 1970s. Since then, I've seen several bargain VHS and DVD releases of it, but they are all missing footage. (The most recent one I've stumbled across was at a dollar store, where it was on a double feature DVD with a Lone Ranger movie.) I don't know why the shorter cut of the film is used on the public domain DVDs, but hope it one day gets a decent DVD release with the full European cut of the film. At least my copy is letterboxed, so I'm having to settle for shorter but wider.
shareMikewr, I just bought the uncut version of zorro with alain delon from amazon.fr. It is the complete version of it; yes, UNCUT! It has slight differences, like the end where the he rides off, the music starts at a different point. there are even a few scenes that I did not ever see before. This dvd is the one we all have been waiting for. BUT, yes there is a catch, it is region 2 which means you either need a region free player or a region 2 player. Hopefully it will be released in america (region 1) very soon. The transfer is of excellent quailty! I was very impressed with it. I say again; this is the one all zorro fans have been waiting for.
