GREATEST SWORD DUEL EVER!!
I hearby declair that this Zorro has the greatest sword fight ever.
The final duel between Alain Deleon's Zorro and the villian has got to be the most spectcular and exciting of all time, topping any Robin Hood, Scarlet Pimpernel, Star Wars, Samurai, Pirate or Musketeers flick you've ever seen!!
It goes on for like ten minutes- in the spanish villa's garden, through the hallway, up the grand central staircase, through the armory, through the drawing room, through the villian's den (where the fiend uses multiple weapons in trying to stop our hero), up the stairs again, through the rafters of the catherdral, Zorro takes a tumble through a stain glass window, the fight continues with swords and fire brands in the dark confines of the clock tower amid the huge grinding cogwheels, up the stairs again, to finally climax high atop the battlements where Zorro dofts his mask and faces the villian, er, face to face, before sending him plumetting to his doom.
A fun, light-hearted kiddies film, the final fight was a lot more ferocious than the campy high jinks of the rest of the film, the villian a truely nasty piece of work with a really hard edge and quite a formidaby adversary.
Every snarl and grunt and glare of bloodlust was on display and truely rousing.
Great, the best.
Trivia- the final showdow in the film Avenging Force was no doubt partially inspired by this film.
The wimpiest sword fight ever was between Kevin Costner and Alan Rickman in that stupid Prince of Thieves movie.
Bob Kane, creator of Batman, openly admitted that Batman's whole modis operandi was taken from Zorro, that's why Zorro features as Bruce Wayne's partial insperation, as a hommage.
Zorro is the coolest. Nuff said.
