In 2007, I knew a girl, only a couple years younger than myself, who worked at a movie theater and fancied herself a film buff. Her favourite film was Young Frankenstein. When I asked her why, she said that 'it's really funny, a lot funnier than other old movies'.
I agreed, and then said it's not really that old, though, only about thirty years. She insisted that it was from the 1930s because it was in black and white.
I asked her if she'd seen Willy Wonka, and she had but didn't know who Gene Wilder was. So, she didn't recognize any of the actors in Young Frankenstein.

Now, I'm not the biggest film buff. My knowledge of film pre-1975 is pretty sparse, but I've known of the concept of modern movies being in black and white for stylistic reasons since I was very young.
