Holy crap! WTF was that??

"A Woman Under the Influence"?? Should have been titled "A Woman Who is Bat S**t Crazy".
What a terribly depressing and pointless film!

Mabel was crazy, obviously an extreme paranoid schizophrenic. Nick was also crazy. Gena Rowlands gave a magnificent performance (can't believe she didn't win the Oscar), but what was the point? Or was there a point?

Some of the WTF moments:

They sleep on a sofa bed in the dining room??

Mable goes to a bar, picks up a guy, takes him home, and sleeps with him. Then the next morning she's abusive and acts like she's never seen him before??

Nick brings the whole motley crew home for breakfast (Dinner? I dunno.) with no warning?
And they have spaghetti??

The whole goofy family jumps in bed and starts singing and whistling??

The have a PRIVATE sign on the bathroom door??

Mabel's walking around on the street harassing people for the time, and then wandering into the street??

The guy at work has a safety line, but inexplicably falls down the hill breaking a lot of bones??

Nick is smoking and drinking in front of his own kids, and giving them beer??

Neighbor kids come over, and all the kids start taking their clothes off?? And when the concerned father tries to take his kids and leave, Nick attacks him??

The guy won't stay for dinner because he "just doesn't like spaghetti"??

Mabel starts talking about Tina's big ass in front of her?? Apparently she also has Alzheimer's.

Mabel does a little "you must pay the rent" skit with a ribbon??

She's committed, and then after six months she comes home and she's still wacko? What the hell kind of mental facility did they send her to??

And what in the wide, wide world of sports was with that incredibly GOOFY music at the end? We along with the characters have just been through a horrible experience, and the idiot director is going all honky tonk on us?

Can anyone come up with explanations for any of this insanity??

I cannot fathom why the late, great Roger Ebert gave this turd four stars! What was he smoking when he reviewed this turkey??
