A Woman Under the Influence or Repulsion?
Both deal with similar subjects of insanity. Both pack a punch. Which one is better? I like them about the same.

Repulsion, definitely. Cassavetes´s films tend to be a little on the overly talky side and although the chatter ain´t as plentiful as to shut things almost completely down the way it does in Faces, it does however make for a minor quibble.

This was my first Cassavetes film, and I think my problem is that I didn't know what to expect because of it. I honestly didn't really enjoy this film at all, which is why it especially shocked me to see this comparison at first because of my love for Repulsion.
Obviously Repulsion had more "horror" elements to it which may be why it appealed to me more initially as well as the fact that the main character had a very mysterious nature to her. However, I can definitely see how these two films can be easily compared. I just happened to have two different experiences with these two films.
I just finished watching The Killing of a Chinese Bookie today, which I actually liked much more than this film. Maybe I just need to revisit this and hopefully will have a different experience.
Funny you brought this up. As I was watching Woman, I was strongly reminded of Repulsion. The same base subject matter is there, just dealt with in different situations with different directors. It's hard to say which is better, as both take such different paths. But my personal preference would probably go with Repulsion, simply due to my love of the surreal.

I don't think the two films are remotely similar. A Woman Under the Influence deals with the perception of insanity within the context of a family drama. Whether or not Mabel is actually "insane" is in the eye of the beholder. Repulsion is a horror film about a genuinely psychotic woman gradually losing touch with reality, resulting in murder. I don't see how you can compare the two.Though, for the record, I gave both a 10/10.

i think i prefer repulsion because it didnt seem as depressing as woman under the influence.
i was kind of disturbed by the fact that the child actors had to witness a woman like that..but then again it was good acting, and a good movie overall..very unafraid and original.
