Saddest, Most Touching Movie Ever!

I LOVE this movie. They were such close friends, Billy, Little Ann, and Little Dan... I couldn't stand it! I was bauling my eyes out! It was so sad when Little Dan died! I just so wanted to take the movie out when Little Ann was so sad and always lied down by Little Dan's grave and yelped, not eating, and died of a broken heart!

You may find some things different from my point of view...

Both films are so similar.

This film is definitely not for everyone — but then again, I like Cronenberg's early work, so what do I know? ;-)

It's very disturbing and surprisingly graphic, even for dog films, which usually have the same conclusion but handle it much differently. On the other hand, I love the scrappiness here and the attention to detail, and the coon hounds are extremely cute while they last. This was made at a time when "family films" — films in general, really — didn't follow the same template. 8/10 stars from me.

The denouement brought a tear not only to my right eye, but also my left.

The world economy will crash in 2016, so for now, have fun!

Me too. If I had a third eye, that would have been moist as well, in addition to blind.

I Totally Agree!

I read the book, and saw the film when I was a kid, and now have the film on DVD.

Everytime I get to the end, I ball my eyes out. So I don't revisit the story very often...and when I do, I make sure I have a box of tissue near by!
