Avakum's Big Change

I was thinking about it the other day: This movie is about the great change that came in Avakum's life as a result of leaving civilization, but if you think about it, the change wasn't all that great.

Before he shot Ivan he lived out in the woods with his dogs, afterwards he lived out in the woods with the tigers.

Other than that he went from rarely coming into town to never coming into town. It's not as if Martha Stewart built a shack in the middle of Siberia and fired all her servants!

I did think he could have been a little more courteous to Boris in their last scene, being that he (you know) killed the man's son!
