Great documentary about Vase De Noces

I got the chance to see the documentary about this movie included as the main extra feature of the German dvd and it totally blew me away.

I've also feel a bit ashamed because I've always considered this movie like the story of a man who made a sow pregnant and then he eats *beep* but the documentary taught me that there's so much more in the movie!

It's a very interesting movie, with lots of ideas and deep metaphores.
And the documentary is so well done that I didn't realized that it was almost longer than the movie.

A very interesting job, I'm glad i've changed my mind about the movie.

Actually, no there isn't much more in the movie. Guy screws a pig and eats s***. I've watched and that's all there was. Nothing more and nothing less. I can't imagine a doc on this film. Either you're trolling or they trolled everyone by making a documentary about this movie.

reply

you should definitely watch the doc. your above statement pretty much proves that you're missing out big time.

I have recently seen the movie (as of yesterday) and am curious in seeing the documentary. Is it as obscure as the movie and/or available in America, you think?

"May I say, what a SMASHING blouse you have on?"

reply

I don't know, I'm from Spain and I've bought it from an Italian online store.
I think you can find it in some import stores but I'm afraid it's going to be expensive.

The documentary is part of the German 2-disc set of the film, whích is actually 100% English-friendly. You can buy it here for example: http://www.chainsawvideo.nl/dvd_details.asp?id=1044
But there are other shops as well.

What would be the point of watching a documentary on this movie? I am curious because after watching it I have no desire to figure out the history behind such a lame attempt at an art house movie as this. All of you say I am missing out but provide no reasons as to why. Therefore I have to think you are all just people with a bestiality fetish that like lame movies. How can a 90 minute documentary shed any light on this film?

reply

It's not a question of a bestiality fetish, of course.
Actually bestiality is not one of the themes of the movie, not at all.
Even if it could sound weird (and it would have sounded VERY WEIRD to me too before watching the documentary) this is a movie about spirituality, it's a sort of a quest for purification, a kind of alchemic journey.

There are many references to flemish painters, mysticism, authors like Artaud or Jung...
That documentary opened my eyes about the movie, I'm really glad it did because I admit I haven't been capable to understand it on my own. It's probably my limit but I have deeply revaluate the movie after seeing the movie.

Zéno says that the movie has more than one connection with the the ones made by Pasolini and I agree with him. Well, Pasolini belongs to a completely different level but it's true that there are several connections.

Zéno and Garny are two cultured person with a solid background and they knew what they did at the time of the movie.

I've discovered this movie because I study Claudio Monteverdi music and I'm planning a book about him. When I knew that this movie featured some of his sacred music I've immediately searched for a good copy of it.

Another interesting thing about the documentary is how it reveals very interesting anecdotes about the movie (how they found the film for making it, all the problems they had with censorship, the controversy with animal killing...).

This movie shows you that the noble and fine "cineasts" will watch anything.

I bet a lot of what you self-proclaimed cinephiles call "art-house directors" are actually laughing at you themselves. They have fun testing how far they can go and still fool someone.

Whomever made this movie had no talent, but unlike you guys he had a brain so he exploited your lack of taste and intelligence and your perversions and, since there are so many of you idiots, he probably made his living off of it.

You can take anything, you can take a piece of *beep* and analyze it to death and argue that you are smarter than the rest because you are watching obscure movies. It doesnt mean that the movie/piece of crap has any substance other than that of a foul smell of manure and particles of feces, which in turn is exactly whats coming out of your mouths when you analyze/review it.

The movie is about retarded young man who *beeps* a pig and eats sh*t. That's basically it. Hipsters will find any nasty pile of cinema excrement to be art.
