Remake

Has anyone heard any more on the remake of this movie Queen Latifah was supposed to be trying to do this

reply

I've heard about this as well...not too many details but I'm hoping more becomes revealed soon. I'm skeptical about modern blaxploitation but I'll see where it goes.

reply

I hope they don't do a remake of this with Queen Latifa--I suppose she is to play Dorinda, I assume---cause a modern day version of this would be too gangsta for me. The movie is fine the way it is and doesn't need to be remade.

he'd be the best choice for a hip-hop remake..

Yeah, I'm a bit worried about the prospect of a *beep* remake

reply

But who knows. It might be good, though I don't see how it could equal this film.

reply

Maybe they should try making original movies instead of re-makes and TV shows made into movies?

reply

Latifah was trying to produce not star in the remake was what I heard

reply

I don't know how a remake that resembles the original will go over today. Everyone is more PC today.

Yeah, a lot of people get uncomfortable when confronted with this stuff.

I am a white guy and i think part of the reason why I love these films is because they some of the better ones (Superfly) just try and convey the truth and people can freak out about that and deem the film bad for society or whatever, but a lot of what they were doing was drawing attention to issues at hand.

A remake is a dreadful idea. The language and culture that made this movie possible in the 70s don't exist today. All you get with these awful remakes is Halloween dress-up featuring your favorite stars dressing up as characters from old movies and TV shows. They hold nothing of the charm of the original. They're just a quick way for a studio with no better ideas to make a buck or two. Horrific pablum.

If they did do a Remake Ving Rhames would be a great Truck Turner and Terrence Howard could be Jerry. Oh yeah Adibsi from Oz could be Harvard Blue

reply

i agree with ocangaceiro.. a remake is a horrible idea, but if i were offered the part of harvard blue, i for sure wouldnt' turn it down. one of my favorite 70s flix of all time. this, BLACK BELT JONES, HELL UP IN HARLEM, and UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT.

If they do a remake Common should play Truck and Janet Jackson should play Dorinda.

Maybe Micheal Clarke ducan could be Truck Turner

reply

Haha, whoever said Janet Jackson, we know she can cuss like a truck driver after Poetic Justice. I can see her swinging around those big tatas but seriously they are probably going to butcher the original movie. I am very skeptical this will be as good as the original. Movies today are so overproduced and not subtle the way these were. The stunts today are way over the top and that takes away from the realism that the 70's movies had. I will want to see it but I may not like it but I will keep an open mind.

This film doesn't need a remake; it's fine the way it is.
