Involuntary Manslaughter?

Four years for involuntary manslaughter, he purposely shot a cop. Racist cop yes, but cop nonetheless.

It was self defense, the cop had already taken several shots at him first.

reply

Hmm. Still sounds unreal though. Anyone know if that ever happen in real life?

wallacesawyer, I don't know where you live but this happens all the time. This occurence always happened in history albiet when some oppressed entity(ies) is violated by a powerful yet corrupt or bias entity pushes their moral code on an oppressed entity(ies), biet hippies or indians! even Nazis or Judians ...See also the Russian revolution.

So the answer to your question is YES!!!! because nobody has ever received any sentence for a crime(s) that they deserved... thats our judicial system hard at work. If a punishment had ever fit the crime then there would be less need to reform any criminals themselves or any potentially new ones, when "An Eye for an Eye" worked so much better in the past. Now there is simply no risk in commiting a crime, you simply get food, lodging and clothing at the expense of the imprisoning body. This is just pacifism in sheep's clothing. Just think of all those empty prison cells that old philosophy would provide.

As noted, he was only defending himself (and a young girl) against a cop who was shooting at both of them. The cop wasn't just racist, he was highly corrupt, and had previously helped kidnap a young boy who ended up being killed by some of the captors.

In real life, BJ would not have been convicted of anything, as the girl would've corroborated that he was acting in self-defense.

It's *possible* BJ would've been convicted of an earlier killing of the young man who raped his friend. But in that case, the young man was shooting at him, and had just helped kill the young boy. So I don't see any conviction happening there either.

I think your forgettieng the more unrealistic part, a bunch of hippies being able to buy an abandoned military base, renivent it, start recording studio, tv studio, investigative magazine, organize the world's largest marching band competition, and creat a program to cure child abuse through the power of love all in the short four years Billy Jack was in prison.

reply

Yea, all of that is pretty unbelievable - except for the marching band thing.

reply

Hilarious and very apt post, elsporko! I was under the impression that they just "took over" the military base, though, as if it had been abandoned by the government (which of course wouldn't happen).

reply

It does happen! And they frequently become 'parks'. By law, the tribe that exists in the area is supposed to get 'first dibs' at taking it over or buying it out. At Fort Columbia, on the Columbia River in Washington State, as soon as they found out the Chinooks were actually interested, they decided they weren't giving it up, weren't closing the 'park'. But while this was all in the works, someone stole the huge, ancient planks of old growth cedar out of the theatre. That was worth something, let me tell you. And they never did a thing about it!

reply

elsporko, I don't know how ol you are but all of this is possible... A well known group known as 'Hippies", unite mobilized and formed countrywide settlements in well under 4 years PLUS mobilize on Washington DC simultaneously in protest on a litany of matters pertaining to War and Civil rights, the later of which the general public seems to have become accustomed to giving up in leiu of an unjust war. This is frighteningly similar to what the U.S. has entered into now, difference is that no one is fighting for their civil rights back even though it's been proven overtly that the government lied about a war it is now in. See movie "Wag the Dog" for further similarities. It's laughable just how niave the people have become.

Normal Person, a large loose knit group of people forming protests and communes in over four years (Hippies hitting their stride in the mid 60s but being around since the beginning of the decade and having origins from Beatniks before that) is very different from a small group of orphans and runaways raising the money to build various studios from scratch, creating a news magazine, and developing a miracle cure for child abuse. The last one is especially frustrating since people dedicate their lives to helping those who were abused, and evidently it took the uneducated orphans of the Freedom school less time then it takes to get a bachelor's degree to succeed.

Emotionally traumatized teenagers aren't known for their ability to work faster then people who have money, experience, and resources. In their effort to make the freedom school seem awesome they gave up realistic credibility. They even included that idiotic lie detector that can tell lies through the TV. Something like that would be far fetched in a sci fi movie in the future, much less being made by somebody with no training or even a lab to work in

The Billy Jack series was better off making us think the kids at the freedom school were good at in prompt, rather then trying to make us think they are smarting and more capable then all the scientists and government officials of the world

elsporko just debunking your logic;

1) creating a news magazine = buy a printing press and some black ink, they used to use ink on papyrus in the Roman

2) developing a miracle cure for child abuse = remove and relcate the child far far away from the abuse

3) sale of goods on the order of anything salable ...recycling isn't a new idea its just a resurgence of an very old one.

Finally ...

4) Police or authorities have use this lie detector for centuries, its called the human eye. additionally a machine might be used in conjunction to record any variance between it's periodic readings (ie VHS recorder for later re-viewing purpose of that which the eye did not catch)

Therefore neither Sci-Fi nor 20th century for that matter, this isn't rocket science or even technologic matter, just requires sheer detemination to survive and progress.

Emotionally traumatized teenagers aren't known for their ability to work faster then people who have money, experience, and resources.
...therefore skills aren't as much a requirement as determination.

Normal Person, you wouldn't know or understand logic if it bit you on the ass.

You also fail to address any of his actual claims. This movie is ridiculously unrealistic, as he notes.

I hope this helps.

reply

Exactly, elsporko.

Blah blah blah I'm a dirty hippie blah blah blah.

(Please explain how it's "unjust" to defend yourself or others against barbaric terrorist attacks. Or how our government "lied", given that Saddam himself actively sought to convince the world he had WMD's? Ignore for now the fact that most Iraqi's cheered Saddam's removal and execution, that Iraq now has a relatively peaceful and representative, democratically elected government, or that the democratization of Iraq helped spark the Arab Spring generally.)

and killed Posner's son, took many shots at other officers, and endangered a minor, plus probably countless other weapons and assault charges. A very light sentence for him from the corrupt racist establishment indeed.
