WTF??

I saw this film in the theater when it was first released in the US. I thought it was stunningly remarkable. Over the years I've told many people how brilliant it was. So imagine my disappointment when I finally was able to get a DVD copy and to my shock and surprise, discovered that a ridiculous ending had been added to the film. Totally out of place both in terms of story and style. My sincere hope is that someday the original version of this gem will become available.
