To a Noob...is it really any good?

Let's get one thing straight I'm not a fanboy of exploitation cinema, maybe I am a potential one (this movie might swing me) but at the moment I haven't seen much of it and so can't really say I like it. What I have seen, Cannibal Holocaust various zombie flicks I get on with in varying degrees but rarely love them.

Also, I admittedly HAVE been drawn to this movie by word of Tarantino. And in fact that is my question...

I love Tarantino's stuff so I assume that when he loves something I would also. But often I find that I feel he does it so much better. For example, I love Dusk till Dawn. And that is trashy horror but done with some panache and style.

So have I just been unlucky in what I've seen from the exploitation genre and will Thriller provide the same fun that I would get if I watched Kill Bill or do you think I'll be disappointed?

Cheers.

I actually did fall asleep watching it ! Only reason I came across the movie at all is because there is a fan made music video called " Lofticries " by Purity Ring on youtube which is made from scenes from the film

Well worth watching....great tune too

Is it any good? Well, it's intense, and visceral, and at least effective. But is it fun? No. No. And, No. There is really nothing of "Kill Bill" here, and you will certainly be disappointed if you watch it with that expectation.

I have to pretty much agree with what everyone else said. An interesting plot and what seems like a very capable cast done in by long boring stretches much of which could have been cut. Don't be fooled by the previews for this film which make it look like an action flick as most of those scenes were few and far between and did not really occur until near the film's finale.

But now that you are aware of this I think you should still give it a chance if you can rent it and see how a semi-decent film could have been potentially better. One could only imagine if someone like maybe Jonathan Demme or Roger Corman got a hold of this script back in the 70s or maybe even if Quinten Tarrentino remade it?

I love exploitation but despise Tarantino. All he does is copy scenes/entire movies and call it an homage. Heck Kill Bill was basically a (crap) remake of Lady Snowblood.

As for this movie. First time I saw it I thought it was kinda boring. Keep in mind I expected the next Death Wish. This is not a movie like that. When I rewatched it tonight I found it to be more in line with I Spit On Your Grave (as in plodding/very bleak) but at the same time trying to add this surreal mood with the psychedelic music in places. Especially during the slow motion kill scenes.
On 2nd viewing I really enjoyed it.
