...when they stop to get gas. the old man offers them to hang out and eat dinner. i think they would've been lured in and killed that way.
seeing all the old cars under the tarp at the house makes me think they were hiding the cars of victims they killed. but it wouldn't make any sense for people to be driving up to their house that often, so i think people were driving to the gas station and got lured into his trap.
But didn't Bubba and the Hitchhiker stay out of sight, like back at the old house? If that is the case, then how would the cook overpower those who stop the station, including the teens in the van? Was the window washer in on it?
I would bet the hitchhiker went to the gas station all the time. All they would have to do is trick the right person into the back room where they could surprise them.
The window washer was probably in on it. There was definitely something wrong with him. He might not have been part of the family but I'm sure he participated in certain deviant things, like killing unsuspecting customers.
It just doesn't make sense to me that anyone would actually go to that house. Maybe someone, once in a great while like a door to door sales person, but not enough people to have that many cars on the property. They couldn't be local victims because that would have brought too much attention from local authorities.
I would love to see a prequel made on 16mm film and shot with this same style. You would need a director who could do justice to the original in all ways though.
That would be interesting. The prequel that was made (I don't remember when) was so stupid, and IMO none of the sequels, nor the remake, have been good. To me, nothing can compare to the original TCM.
Too right! In my opinion, none, I mean NONE of the TCM prequels, remakes or sequels were really any good. If they wanted sequels, they should have followed the Psycho mode where each film actually connects and continues or goes back further from the original. The Exorcist is another fine example.
I also agree with other posts about how it was unlikely that many would venture up to the actual house and became victims at the gas station or maybe even set boobytraps. I also got the impression that the family dabbled in satanism considering some of the bone symbols and how the old man (grandfather) was kept alive for so many years. So maybe some restrained supernaturalism could have been at play there perhaps? As for the window washer, the more I think of it, the more I believe he HAD to have been involved. There is no way they would have kept him around and not have killed him if he wasn't because he would have at least 'suspected' what was happening.
The hitchhiker takes a picture of the group and then lights it on fire. He also leaves a cryptic mark on the side of the van. Almost as if he was marking them.
