Legendary has closed a deal for Ryan and Andy Tohill to direct a reboot of the classic 1974 horror film “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” sources tell Variety.

The pic will be written by Chris Thomas Devlin with Bad Hombre’s Fede Alvarez and Rodolfo Sayagues producing through their overall deal with Legendary.

“The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want,” Alvarez said in a statement. “It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”

Really only the first one was any good.

The 2003 remake surpassed the original.

In what way?

Acting, pacing, cinematography, score, kills, scare factor and better characters. Very much in every aspect. The kills in the original feel inconsequential and the film does a poor job at making you care for the characters. Hell that Franklin guy was so annoying I felt relieved when he was killed and he ruins several scenes he is in. The movie kills 4 characters rather quickly and then it devolves into a repetitive chase/scream fest with Sally. The remake flows better and the final chase scene with the payoff is much more satisfying. Also Erin > Sally.

I am very much a fan of the original but haven’t seen any remakes or sequels.

I think the original sequels turned into comedy but the 2003 remake I think really did a great job at doing it's own thing while still capturing the idea of the original. The prequel to it from 2006 was...ok. The other ones that followed I didn't really like.

Surpassed it in it's suckage.

The original is a joke. It is just a good idea (Leatherface) wrapped in a mediocre film.

Good Lord, how many of these damn movies do we possibly need? Just leave it as is. Y'know, maybe it's not worth it when you've tried 9 times to reboot a franchise and failed miserably each time. Even Tobe Hooper himself couldn't revive his own franchise. This is just sad now.

Amen.

I was one of the few that didn't mind Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. But I haven't seen it again after watching it the first time.

Pretty much all the other sequels and the remake are garbage. (Though, wasn't there a prequel to the 2003 remake. Didn't bother with that one as the remake was pretty rubbish.)
