What is a novie?

I would agree with that. Many characters in newer horror movies (especially teenage/college age ones) are very vulgar, annoying loudmouths so it's more difficult to sympathize with them than it is with characters from older horror movies.

I think that's what modern horror movies are going for. They want to focus on the carnage.

Writing a movie where you create characters who are sympathetic and easy to like isn't as easy as just getting some butchering a bunch of generic or vile characters.

Modern horrors want you to sympathise with the killer in an attempt to get more sequels. In the 1980s, you were meant to like the teenagers being picked off and find them interesting.

Does anyone else think old movie good and new movie bad?

Give it a rest please. I've been hearing this "movies were better back in the good old days" since I was kid.

Also TCM: The Beginning has much more sympathetic characters and superior character development than TCM '74. That's just a simple fact and anyone saying otherwise is lying to themselves. You can prefer whatever movie you like but TCM: The Beginning put WAY more effort into developing a sympathetic group of protagonists than TCM '74 did.

TCM '74 is one of those barebones flicks. It's all about the mood and atmosphere. Some nice photography and editing. The characterizations are minimal and the screenplay is basic. A group of young adults quite literally walking right into danger one by one.

What makes the characters in TCM '74 so sympathetic? You have Franklin who's a whiny little shit, you then have two couples whom you don't learn much about.

YOU AND I ARE FAIRLY CLOSE OPINION WISE WHERE TCM IS CONCERNED...I AGREE WITH AND SECOND YOUR ENTIRE POST.
