People should just leave this movie alone

I have nothing against any of the sequels or remakes of this movie, and people can enjoy whatever they want to enjoy - but in my mind, this is the perfect example of a movie that needs no sequel, prequel or even a remake. The more movies with this name that are made, the less impact the original movie has.

It would never have happened with the box office success this movie had, but they should have just left it at one. All these new movies trying to explain the origins of Leatherface are completely missing the point of what made the original so chilling.

Just my two cents!

I agree. None of them are even half as good as this masterpiece.

I think with the right writer(s) I would ask for at least four more movies, and then call it quits. Two sequels to the original four movies, and two to TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D. I'm fine with direct-to-video. The series probably should've have gone in that route a long time ago anyway.

It should have been left alone. It is the scariest movie ever made and it would be so much better if it had no sequels or remakes and it was just that awesome cannibal movie from the mid 70s. But with all of the follow ups it sort of seems disrespected. Too bad because it is my all time favorite movie. Another note is lots of times when a movie is remade or have sequels I think how it disrespects the makers of the original. Seeing as how Hooper himself made 2 he has nobody to blame but himself. The '74 one is the only one that should have been made.

I agree! The sequel's are stale. Nothing is better than the original.

I got about half an hour into the sequel, and just went; "Naah!" and turned it off. It just wasn't as good. Still not seen the end, or any of the other original sequels.

I saw the remake, which wasn't even 10% as good as the original. Just an awful remake, and I can't understand why it gets praised so much. I enjoyed Jessica Biel's performance, but everything else felt worthless.

I saw that 3D one at the cinema. I thought that was okay. I enjoyed watching it, despite the criticisms it received. I might watch it again, but I'll never watch it as much as the original.

The 1974 movie is the greatest horror movie ever made, in my opinion. And I agree that explaining the back story to the characters, and giving them names, is just a stupid plot point that takes away from what made the film so disturbing in the first place. They were strange, evil people who were attacking with no real motive.

As much as I loved this movie I have to say that the remake was even better. I think probably the only remake that I can say was better than the original.

I think masterpiece is way to strong for this scruffy old jaunt. It was big for the 70s but I'm not a fan & believe this to be uninteresting & low blood. Prefer the 3rd film or remake myself. The 2nd film was so bad I had to turn it off years ago lol

Same deal with most "classic" horrors. People like money though, which is fair enough.

TCM 2 is a great horror comedy and the two platinum dunes efforts are amazing. So I for one am very glad they made sequels and remakes of this. I'd be happy for them to keep trying until they get it right again. What's the worst that'll happen? I'll watch a shitty TCM movie then move on with my life. No biggie, been there done that. Sequels and remakes aren't blasphemy.

I find it odd how some people act like sequels/remakes 'cheapen' the original or somehow make it worse. It's not going any where, people still champion TCM '74 as one of the greatest horror movies of all time, the franchise hasn't damaged it's reputation it's the franchise as a whole that is cheapened whilst the original remains unscathed.
